DechkoHristovUzunov was born on February 22, 1899, in the town of Kazanlak.He spenta year studying at the Munich Art Academy (1922-23) and in1924 hegraduated from the Sofia Art Academy, major Painting.
DechkoUzinovwas later Rector of the Sofia Art Academy, Director of theNational ArtGallery in Sofia, and several times Chairman of the BGArtists Union.Art Professor and Academician. Chairman of the UNESCOInternationalPlastic Arts Association, Honoraray Member of the MoscowArt Academy.Member of the European Academy of Sciences, Art andLiterature.
DechkoUzinov had been awarded numerous times forhis outstanding art works. Hewas one of the most eminent BG artists,who left a large artisticheritage of over 13,000 paintings. He workedin most of the genres butpredominantly portraits, figural compositionsand landscapes.
Dechko Uzunov died on April 26th, 1986, in Sofia.
